Ian St John Cross is a Norwich-based artist, filmmaker and animator whose practice combines drawing, animation and moving image installation. Using free association and chance, he explores shifting relationships between image, text and sound.
He studied Fine Art before completing postgraduate studies in Film and Video at Central Saint Martins. His early films were supported by Arts Council England and Channel 4, and his work has screened internationally.
Most recently he collaborated with artist Mark Francis on Listening Field, presented in the San Marino Pavilion at the 2026 Venice Biennale.
Alongside his artistic practice, he has worked for over three decades in advertising, film and television, creating title sequences, animation and moving image work for clients including the BBC, HBO and Netflix.
